Hiring a private investigator is a serious decision. Before you sign anything, ask these five questions. The answers will tell you more than any marketing page.
1) Are you licensed in the state where the work will be performed? Get the license number. Verify it. Cross-state work has specific rules and reciprocity isn't automatic.
2) What is your insurance? Professional liability matters. So does errors-and-omissions coverage. A serious agency carries both and will share certificates on request.
3) How will you document the work? Ask about reporting cadence, video standards, and how raw footage is stored. Vague answers here are a red flag.
4) Who is actually doing the field work? Some agencies subcontract. That isn't always wrong — but you deserve to know who's on the case and what their qualifications are.
5) What are your fees, and what is and isn't included? Hourly rates, mileage, equipment, report preparation, court appearances — get it in writing.
A reputable agency will welcome these questions. If anyone gets defensive, that's the answer.
